Chakka Appam is an authentic traditional tea time snack made from Jackfruit or Chakka. Koozha Chakka is used for preparation of Chakka Appam since this variety of jackfruit is soft and easy dissolving. Chakka Appam is unique and tasty with jackfruit pieces cooked in jaggery and finally blended with wheat and rice flour before steaming. Jackfruit is nutritious, rich in nutrients and is a popular fruit in Kerala. Chakka Appam is very easy to prepare and requires very few ingredients. - Jack fruit - 2 cups
- Jaggery(adjust according to ur choice) - 1 cup
- Cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp
- Cumin powder(roasted) - 1/4 tsp
- Rice flour - 1/2 cup
- Wheat flour - 1 cup
- Grated Coconut - 1 cup
- Water - 1/4 cup
- Salt(a pinch) -

Instructions
- For preparing Chakka Appam, first remove the seeds from the jack fruit bulbs and chop into small pieces and keep it aside.
- Add cardamom, cumin powder, coconut and salt. Switch off the flame.
- Add the wheat flour little by little. Then add rice flour, mix well and make it into a smooth dough. It should not be too thick or too loose.
- Transfer this mixture into a plate(brush little ghee) and steam it in a steamer for 20-25 minutes or until done.
- Delicious Chakka Appam is ready. Serve hot with tea or coffee.
Recipe Notes
Usually this recipe is prepared by wrapping in banana leaves or vazhanayila. But I didn't get both.
