  • 2 cups Idle/Dosa rice
  • 1 cup Whole Black gram Uzhunnu
  • 2 - Boiled rice
  • Salt As reqd


  • Put rice and uzhunnu separately in water for soaking.
  • Allow it to soak atleast 3 - 4 hrs.
  • :- Soaking for a long time gives more softness to dosa.
  • Grind rice and uzhunnu separately by adding water, while boiled rice along with any of these to a smooth form.
  • :- Do not add much water to rice.
  • Mix well.
  • Keep overnight and use the batter for dosa.
  • Before making dosas, add enough salt and mix well.

    Hi,Thanks a lot for this good post. I was in search of making dosa batter, tried 2-3 recipes, but none of them was good. This recipe turned out really crispy and golden in color.

    Thanks, good recipe, there are lots of starters who search for even dosa recipe, who are away from parents so these types of simple recipies are a great help to them.
