Ingredients
- Kadala - 1 cup
- Shallots(cut into small pieces, Kunjulli) - 5 -
- Onion(chopped) - 1 no
- Garlic pods(cut into small and crushed) - 3 -
- Red chillies(cut into 3 pieces) - 2 nos
- Mustard seeds - 1/ 2 tsp
- Curry leaves - 1 sprig
- Chilly powder - 3/4 tsp
- Coriander powder - 11/2 tsp
- Garam masala(optional) - 1/4 tsp
- Cloves(Grambu) - 2 nos
- Fennel seeds(Perinjeerakam) - 1/4 tsp
- Oil - 2 tsp
- Salt(As reqd) -
- Water(As reqd) -

Instructions
- Soak kadala overnight and pressure cook with salt, till done.
- Mix together the coriander and chilly powder with little water to a paste and keep aside for 7 - 10 mins.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Splutter mustard seeds.
- Add red chillies, shallots and curry leaves and saute for 2 mins.
- Add onion and saute till light brown.
- Add the crushed garlic, crushed clove-perinjeerakam and chilly-coriander paste and saute for 3 - 4 mins.
- Add the cooked kadala along with water.
- Cook on low flame for 10 mins.
- :- Serve hot with puttu.
