This is a different recipe. Whenever we have leftover rice we can do many varities. In that Pongal is unique

  • 1 big Leftover rice
  • 1/2 cup Toor dal and moong dal
  • 1 tsp Jeera
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 1 Red chili
  • 1 Green chili
  • 1 string Curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp Hing
  • Salt as per taste
  • 4 tblsp oil and ghee


  • in pan cook dal and and keep aside
  • Now add cooked rice and mix well
  • Now add salt and water cook 2 whistles
  • In pan add ghee and oil and temper all other items
  • Now pour into the pongal and mix well
  • Now serve with sambhar leftover rice pongal is ready
