  • 2 cups Green gram dal/Moong dal without skin
  • 2 nos Green chilies chopped
  • 2 nos Dry red chilies
  • 2 tsp Ginger chopped
  • Asafoetida powder A pinch, Kayam
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds Jeerakam
  • Coriander leaves chopped
  • Salt As reqd
  • Oil As reqd


  • For preparing moong dal pancakes, first take a bowl, add enough water and soak green gram dal in it overnight.
  • Next day, drain out the water and grind with dry red chilies, green chilies, asafoetida and cumin seeds.
  • Add water only if required to achieve a batter like consistency.
  • Add ginger, coriander leaves and required salt.
  • Heat a pan, smear with oil, and pour a ladle full of batter into the hot pan. With the ladle spread out the batter in a circular shape.
  • Drizzle oil on the pancake and turn upside down. Cook till both sides are golden in color.
  • Moong dal pancakes, a tasty and nutritious lunch for your kids is ready. Serve with chutney.
