Tomato Uttapam

Tomato Uttapam is one of the classic dishes in South Indian breakfast dishes. Though similar to dosa, Tomato Uttapam is made slightly thicker and fluffier and a variety of topping are used which can range from tomatoes to onion and even cheese and paneer. Toppings are added to dosa while the dosa is cooking on the griddle. These toppings also gets cooked along with dosa. This is also a street side food but a very healthy dish with no saturated fats etc. The dish is rich in carbohydrates and other vital nutrients required for human body. This is one of the easiest of dishes with very few ingredients. Use less oil while preparing dosa and add up on vegetables.

  • For preparing the delicious dish, first take the fermented dosa batter in a bowl.
  • Mix together all the ingredients: turmeric powder, tomato, green chillies and onion in a separate bowl and keep aside.
  • In a tawa, spread the dosa batter with ladle like uttapam. Sprinkle the tomato mixture on top of dosa.
  • Pour oil on sides and cook for 2 minutes by covering with a lid. Flip and fry the other side too before removing dosa from flame.
  • Tasty uttapam is ready. Goes great with a side dish of sambar and chutney for your breakfast.
