Udupi Special With Chana Dal And Black Gram Dal

Soaked chana dal and black gram ground together. Small balls of batter fried and soaked in a liquid gravy.

  • Soak black gram dal and chana dal in water for 1 hour.
  • Drain nicely and grind the two dals into a smooth mixture with a thick consistency.
  • Add required salt and grind once more.
  • Make small lime sized balls and deep fry in oil till golden in color. This preparation is termed µAmbade¦.
  • Grind grated coconut, mustard, tamarind, dry red chillies, jaggery and required salt into a watery batter.
  • Add asafoetida, curry leaves and green chillies to the above batter. Heat the batter and when it starts to boil, dip in fried Ambade. Serve after 1/2 hour.
  • Udupi special with chana dal and black gram dal is ready. Enjoy.
