  • 10 nos Ladies finger cut into 1 inch long pieces, Vendakka
  • 1/2 cup Grated coconut
  • 10 nos Shallots Cheriyulli
  • 2 tbsp Coriander seeds or powder
  • 3 or Red chilly or powder
  • 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds Vendhayam/Uluva
  • Tamarind A small lemon size ball soaked in 1 cup water, Puli
  • Oil As reqd
  • Salt As reqd


  • For preparing Vendakka Puli (Palakkadan Style), first saute coriander and red chilly in 1 tbsp oil.
  • Add fenugreek and saute till it turns golden brown.
  • Grind this with coconut and shallots.
  • Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan.
  • Saute ladies finger.
  • Add tamarind juice and salt.
  • Once it cooks, add the ground masala and boil.
  • Garnish with spluttered mustard, finely chopped shallots, red chilly and curry leaves.
  • :- Vendakka puli tastes better the next day.
