Chlly Fish-Machhli In Indian-Chinese Style

Fish pieces are coated with corn flour batter, stir fried and finally seasoned with soya sauce and other ingredients

  • 600 gms Fish cut into cubes, boneless, preferably thilapia, Thilapia wont easily break. The flesh is little strong
  • 2 nos Onion chopped
  • 5 tbsp Spring onion chopped
  • 2 nos Capsicum diced
  • 8 nos Garlic cloves chopped
  • 1 inch Ginger chopped
  • 4 nos Green chillies nicely chopped
  • 1 tsp Fish sauce buy a good one. This will make a big difference to the chilly fish taste
  • 1 tsp dark Soya sauce
  • 6 tbsp All purpose flour Maida
  • 4 tbsp Rice flour
  • 2 tsp Kashmiri chilly powder
  • Olive Oil recommended
  • Salt As reqd
  • Pepper powder preferably fresh
  • 1/2 tsp Lemon juice freshly squeezed


  • For preparing chilly fish in Indian Chinese style, first mix together red chilly powder, rice flour, maida, lemon juice and required salt in a bowl. Sprinkle little water and make a paste.
  • Marinate the fish cubes and coat the paste on the fish pieces nicely.
  • Keep the marinated fish pieces for 15 minutes.
  • Heat some olive oil in a hard bottomed pan and stir fry fish pieces until it is done.
  • Transfer the cooked fish pieces to a bowl.
  • In the same pan heat some more oil (it will give you more flavur of the cooked fish) and fry the diced onion, ginger, garlic, green chillies and capsicum. Saute for a few minutes in low flame. Please do not burn the onion.
  • Season with soya sauce, fish sauce, pepper and required salt.
  • Sprinkle some water and add the cooked fish and chopped spring onions.
  • Stir fry the fish until it is dry.
  • Chilly fish in Indian Chinese style is ready.
  • Serve the yummy chilly fish hot for the parties.
