1/4 cup Split gram dal (Tuvara parippu)1/4 cup Bengal gram (Kadala parippu)4 nos Green chillies (chopped finely)1/2 inch Ginger (chopped finely)1/4 cup Coconut (grated)1/4 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)Oil (As reqd)2 tsp Tamarind paste3 tsp Coriander leaves (chopped)5-8 nos Curry leaves (chopped)1/4 tsp Mustard seeds1 tsp Fenugreek seeds (Uluva)Asafoetida powder (A pinch, Kaayam)3 tsp Sambar powder2 nos Tomatoes (chopped finely)1 tsp Jaggery (grated, Sakkara) For preparing fried dal balls in a spicy tangy curry, soak split gram and bengal gram for 1 hour in a bowl.In a mixer, add grated coconut, ginger, cumin seeds and grind them into thick paste. Remove and keep aside.Put split gram and bengal gram into mixer and grind them coarsely without adding water.Take out the ground gram mixture into a bowl and add salt.To this add coriander leaves and curry leaves to the gram mixture. Make them into balls.In a kadai add oil and heat it.Deep fry each ball and keep them aside.Next we have to make a thick curry or gravy for these balls.Heat oil in a pan. 11)Once hot, fry mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and a pinch of asafoetida.Add tomatoes and fry till they are soft.Then put in sambar powder and a little water.Once it boils, add the tamarind paste.Let it boil. Then add the coconut paste, jaggery and salt.Let it boil till it becomes thick.Now add the fried balls, coriander leaves and curry leaves.Fried dal balls in a spicy tangy curry is ready to serve.
