Kerala Kinnathappam is a traditional Eid/ramadan sweet dish made during special occasions. Kerala Kinnathappam is a soft, spongy, yet a little firm cardamom flavored sweet snack. Mostly made by muslim population, Kerala Kinnathappam is a tasty favorite with all for both young as well as old. Ponni rice is soaked and ground to a fine paste without any lumps. Thick coconut milk with essential ingredients is added to the rice batter and steamed to make Kinnathappam. The term Kinnathappam is derived from the term “Kinnam” meaning plate which is used in the preparation of the dish. Our Kerala Kinnathappam dish is well illustrated in simple sentences.

  • Wash the rice well and soak in water for sometime.
  • Grind it to a fine paste.
  • :- Make sure you don¦t have any lumps in it.
  • Add thick coconut milk, sugar, salt, powdered cardamoms and about 4 cups of water. Mix well.
  • Strain the above mixture through a clean cloth for about 2 v 3 times.
  • Add cashews and raisins fried in ghee into the above mixture and mix well again.
  • Pour the above into a greased vessel of about 2 v 3 inch thickness.
  • Steam it till done.
