  • 2 nos Onion finely sliced
  • 2 cups Basmati rice
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 5 nos Green cardamom Elakka
  • 2 nos Cloves Grambu
  • 2 nos Bay leaves Vazhana/Karuga ela
  • 2 1/2 cm Cinnamon Karugapatta
  • 3 cups Water
  • Salt As reqd


  • Wash rice and soak in water for 45 minutes. Then drain water.
  • Take a pressure cooker and heat some ghee.
  • Add onion and saute till golden in color. Add all spices: cardamon, cloves, bay leaves and cinnamon.
  • Add water and required salt. When water boils, add rice. Cover pressure cooker and cook for 1 whistle. Open lid when cool. Ghee rice ready.
