  • Potato(cut into medium cubes) - 3 nos
  • Rice(washed and drained, white rice/basmati rice) - 1 1/2 glass
  • Water - 3 glasses
  • Onion(chopped) - 3 nos
  • Curry leaves - 1 handful
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Chilly powder - 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida powder(A pinch, kayam podi) -
  • Salt(As reqd) -
  • Mustard seeds(A pinch, kaduku) -

Instructions
  1. Pour water in a vessel and add cleaned rice.
  2. Cover with a lid and cook for 10 minutes in light medium flame until done. Keep the cooked rice aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and crackle mustard seeds. When mustard crackles, add onion and curry leaves. Saute for sometime in low heat. 4)Add potato cubes, little water for boiling potatoes and required salt. 5)When the potato cubes are cooked, add turmeric powder, chilly powder and asafoetida powder.
  4. Simmer until water dries up completely.
  5. Stir in cooked rice and mix well.
