- White gourd(Kumbalanga) - 100 g
- Pumpkin(Mathanga) - 100 g
- Elephant yam(Chena) - 100 g
- Raw banana - 1 no
- Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
- Chana dal - 2 tbsp
- Red chillies - 4 nos
- Green chillies - 3 nos
- Fenugreek(Uluva) - 1 tsp
- Coconut(grated) - 1 1/2 cup
- Slightly soured butter milk - 1/2 cup
- Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
- Coconut oil - 2 tsp
- Jaggery - 1 piece
- Salt(As reqd) -

Instructions
- For preparing rasakalan - brahmin special, cut and wash white gourd, pumpkin, elephant yam and raw banana. Boil with sufficient quantity of water. Add turmeric powder and salt.
- Fry channa dal, red chillies(3 numbers) and fenugreek(1/2 tsp) with coconut oil and grind the fried items with grated coconut and green chilly.
- Add the ground mixture to the first step and boil for a few minutes.
- Add jaggery.
- Add slightly soured butter milk and as it starts foaming a bit, stop cooking. Care should be taken that it should not be boiled.
- Fry mustard seeds, fenugreek (balance 1/2 tsp) and red chilly (one number) and add this to the mixture.
- Add curry leaves.
- Rasakalan - brahmin special recipe, is ready. Serve with rice.

What’s the difference between aviyal and rasakalan?
The only difference is we use Little jaggery for rasa kalan for the taste. Rest of the procedures are same.
