Palghat style Olan with Brown dal and Yellow pumpkin

  • Cook dal in a pressure cooker along with salt
  • Heat up a pan.
  • Add pumpkin pieces along with a little water and cook, till it is done.
  • Add the cooked dal and mix well.
  • Allow it to boil further, till it becomes thick.
  • Switch off the gas.
  • Pour the coconut oil on the top of the curry.

    I am from Palghat. Though I have tasted olan without coconut milk, surely not with turmeric. In Palghat surely, they make with coconut milk.

    olan without coconut milk? strange.are u sure this is what they make in palakad

    and adding turmeric in olan…..ha ha this is not olan at all

    My in laws are from Palakkad and my mother-in-law is positive she has never seen anyone in her family make olan like this. I trust her opinion as she is an excellent cook. Maybe there is a curry like this, but its def not olan. What is olan without coconut milk??
