Spicy Tangy Fish Rice

Spicy Tangy Fish Rice is an excellent , tasty dish prepared with spice up fish gravy. This would be the best option for sunday lunch. The fish is marinated with masalas, spices and cooked in a gravy. This is mixed up with rice and prepared. A simple rice & fish recipe for beginners using basic ingredients, can be made under 30 mins.

  • 2 lb Fish boneless and cut into pieces, Salmon, Catfish
  • 5 cups Basmati rice washed and soaked for 30 mins
  • 2 nos Onions diced into small pieces, big
  • 12 nos Green chillies split into halves
  • 1/2 cup Yoghurt/Curd sour
  • Dill leaves with branches cleaned and cut
  • Coriander leaves with branches cleaned and cut
  • 1 no Carrot minced, big
  • 1/3 cup Oil/ghee

For marinating fish:


  • Marinate the fish with the ingredients for marination and refrigerate it overnight in an air-tight container.
  • Heat oil/ghee in a big skillet.
  • Add onions and green chillies and fry, till golden brown.
  • Add marinated fish and fry.
  • Add half of dill leaves and half of coriander leaves.
  • Reduce the heat to the medium and cover and cook.
  • When the fish is about to be done, add yoghurt and stir slowly.
  • :- Do not to over stir and break the fish pieces.
  • Cover and cook for another 10 mins.
  • Turn off the heat and seperate the fish pieces from the gravy.
  • Drain the soaked rice.
  • Heat a tbsp of ghee in a cooker.
  • Add drained rice and fry for few mins.
  • Add the gravy from the fish, carrot, the remaining dill leaves, the remaining coriander leaves and 6 1/2 cups of water.
  • Pressure cook upto 1 whistle.
  • Let it rest for 15 mins.
  • Open the lid and remove the contents into a serving bowl.
  • Place the fish pieces on top of the rice.
  • Garnish with dill leaves.
  • :- This is a very nutritious & spicy recipie and is a good source of vitamins, proteins and minerals.
