Nadan Thakkali Chutney | Kerala Style Tomato Chutney

Introduction

Nadan Thakkali Chutney is a traditional Kerala-style tomato chutney known for its bold flavors and spicy undertones. The staple dish prepared using ripe tomatoes and a medley of spices pairs well with dosa, appam, or even rice.

The Essence of Kerala Flavors

This chutney truly captures the soul of Kerala cuisine, with its reliance on fresh local ingredients. What sets the dish apart is the use of sautéed garlic, ginger and curry leaves roasted in coconut oil. That enhances the taste and aroma. The tomatoes are often cooked down till soft, intensifying their natural tang. This perfectly balances the heat from chillies.

Perfect Pairing for Breakfast and More

Firstly, the dish pairs beautifully with a variety of South Indian breakfast items like dosa, idli, appam, and uthappam. Secondly, it also works well as a tangy dip with snacks or as a simple curry replacement during a light rice meal. For those who enjoy a bit of heat and tang in their meals, this chutney is an essential item in the Kerala kitchen.
