Ingredients
- Red gram(Thuvaraparippu) - 1 cup
- Onion - 1/2
- Chillies - 2 nos
- Ginger(A small piece) -
- Coriander leaves(A few) -
- Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
- Salt(As reqd) -
- Lemon juice or 1/4 cut lemon -
- Ghee -
For seasoning:
- Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds(Jeerakam) - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves(A few) -
- Asafoetida(A pinch, Kayam) -
- Oil - 2 tbsp

Instructions
- Cut onion lengthwise and slit chillies.
- Pressure cook dal with enough water or cook nicely till soft.
- Take a pot and pour cooked dal and mash. Add about 2 cup of water and start cooking again.
- Add turmeric powder, onion, chillies, salt and ginger. Allow it to boil.
- Finally, add chopped coriander leaves.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Season with mustard seeds, asafoetida and cumin seeds. When the seeds pop up, add curry leaves.
- Pour this on top of the prepared dal.
- :- Serve hot with rice. Add 1 tsp of ghee and lemon juice while mixing with rice.
- :- The consistency of the dal can be adjusted according to your taste by adding desired water.
