Spicy seer fish curry

  • 1 kg Seer Fish Nei meen
  • 250 ml Refined oil
  • 2 cups Onions finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup Garlic bulbs peeled
  • 2 inch Ginger piece
  • 2 inch Cinnamon Karugapatta
  • 6 nos Cloves Grambu
  • 6 nos Cardamom Elakka
  • 2 tsp Poppy seeds Kashakasha
  • 2 dsp Red chilly powder
  • 1 cup Tomatoes finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • Salt As reqd


  • Cut the fish into thin round pieces, clean and keep aside.
  • Grind together one cup chopped onions, garlic bulbs, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and poppy seeds to a fine paste.
  • Add the paste to the fish pieces and allow to marinate.
  • Take a deep bottomed pan, add oil and heat. Add the remaining cup of chopped onions and fry until brown.
  • Add tomato pieces, red chilly powder, turmeric powder and fry until tomato pieces become tender.
  • Now add the marinated fish pieces along with the paste to the above. Mix gently so that the fish pieces do not break down and at the same time blend with other ingredients.
  • Fry for a few minutes, add enough salt and water, mix again and allow to simmer in medium flame until the preparation is perfectly done.
  • Serve with rice.
