Green gram(Cherupayar) cooked in North Indian style

Ingredients
- Green gram(Cherupayar)(boiled)(whole) - 1 1/2 cups
- Onion - 1 no
- Tomato - 1 no
- Ginger(garlic paste - 1 tsp) -
- garlic(chopped) - 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds(Jeerakam) - 1/2 tsp
- Cumin powder(Jeerakam) - 1 tsp
- Bay leaves(Karuga/Vazhana ela) - 2 nos
- Cloves(Grambu) - 2 nos
- Cardamom(Elakka) - 1 no
- Cinnamon(Karugapatta) - 1 piece
- Green chillies(slit into two) - 3 nos
- Chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Coriander leaves(chopped) - 1 tbsp
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Salt(As reqd) -
- Water - 1/2 cup

Instructions
- Crush the spices and keep aside.
- Heat oil in a pan or a kadai.
- Splutter cumin seeds.
- Add onion, garlic, crushed spices, green chillies and ginger-garlic paste.
- Saute, till onion turns light brown in colour.
- Add tomatoes and saute for 3 mins.
- Add chilly powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder.
- Saute for 2 mins, till the raw smell goes.
- Add the boiled green gram and salt and stir for 3 - 4 mins.
- Add water and mix well.
- Cover and cook for 7 - 10 mins on medium flame, till the gravy reaches a semi consistency stage.
- Sprinkle cumin powder and coriander leaves.
- :- Serve hot with chappathis or naan.
- :- Can also grind onion and spices together for a thicker gravy and saute with chopped onions.
