Banana halwa/valai pazha halwa/Vaalai halwa is prepared by mashing bananas and mixing with sugar syrup and other ingredients.

  • 2 cups Ripe bananas mashed, Ethacka
  • 3/4 cup Milk
  • 1 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Coconut grated
  • 1/2 cup Ghee/Dalda


  • For preparing banana halwa with coconut, first fry the shredded coconut in 1 tbsp of ghee to a golden brown color. Keep this aside.
  • Boil the sugar with some water and remove the scum that forms on top. Remove pan from fire and strain the sugar syrup.
  • Convert the sugar syrup into a thick bottomed pan.
  • When the syrup is cool, add the milk, mashed bananas, and remaining ghee.
  • Cook the mixture in medium heat, stirring all the time.
  • When the banana halwa leaves the sides of the pan, stir in fried coconut.
  • Cook in low heat until the halwa gets a golden color. and ghee starts to come out.
  • Transfer the banana halwa with coconut into a greased dish and serve when cool.
