Kerala Style Chicken Stew is a traditional styled authentic dish that goes well with Kerala Appam. The creamy colored dish is mildly spiced and is a comfort food, mild on your tummy. Chicken bits are simmered in a richly seasoned chicken broth until tender. Though mild, the dish is full of awesome lip smacking flavors. Kerala Style Chicken Stew is also served with almost all rice dishes, like Idiyappam, dosa etc and it tastes very delicious too. Cooking Kerala Style Chicken Stew in coconut oil gives it a very distinct aromatic flavor. We have used only potatoes along with chicken, but you can also use green beans, carrots, cauliflower, and green peas. The peppery flavor is what makes Kerala Style Chicken Stew a distinct and special side dish. I love pepper and this is one of my favorite all time favorite dishes.

Adding vegetables increases the texture and thickness of the dish. Kerala Style Chicken Stew is a festive dish as well. You can’t think of Christmas without Appam and Chicken Stew. Kerala is a land of coconuts and you will find coconut based dishes very popular here. Extraction of thick and thin coconut milk requires some extra work and effort as well.
