Kothamarakka Thoran Kothamarrakka cooked with grated coconut and cumin seeds 250 gm Kothamarakka (cut into very small pieces)1 no Onion (finely chopped)1 tsp Mustard seeds1 - Red chillies (Kollamulaku)1 tsp Black gram, Rice (Uzhunnuparippu)1/2 cup Grated coconut1/4 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)2 nos Green chillies1 sprig Curry leavesTurmeric powder (optional, to be added while boiling the vegetable)2 tsp OilSalt (As reqd)1/4 cup Water Grind together the grated coconut, green chillies, cumin seeds and 2 - 3 curry leaves into a coarse form.Heat oil in a pan or a kadai.Splutter mustard seeds.Add black gram and rice and fry, till they turn brown.Add red chillies and curry leaves.Add onions and saute, till they become light brown.Add kothamarakka and saute for 3 mins.Add water, salt and turmeric powder.Cook, till the vegetable is tender.Add the ground coconut and cook for 2 - 3 mins.:- No water should be left in the veg while adding this.After turning off the stove, keep it covered for 2 - 3 mins.:- Serve hot with rice.:- A pinch of sugar can be added while boiling the vegetable. :- A pod of garlic also can be added to the coconut.
