Arisi Upma / Rice Upma is one of the simple and easy breakfast . this is our family traditional recipe. It is a very simple and flavourful one-pot meal, generally made on fasting days. This Upma is a very popular and traditional Brahmin recipe. Coconut chutney and Kalyana Gotsu pairs well with this upma. A tasty rice upma variety with rice and bit of tur dal grounded to coarse consistency,it is flavourful and filling as well. You may choose whatever method this one is a tasty and healthy way of eating,since it involves very little oil. You can make the powder in advance and store it in an air tight container and use it as and when needed.If you want in large quantities you can grind them in a flour mill

  • 1 cup Arisi rice
  • 1 chopped Onion
  • 2 chopped Green chili
  • Curry leaves small
  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • 1 tsp Urad and channa dal
  • 5 tblsp Oil
  • Salt as taste


  • Soak rice for 2 hours and grind it and keep aside
  • in a pan add oil 2 tblsp and temper mustard and urad, channa dal
  • Now add onion curry leaves ,green chili and saute well
  • Now add rice batter and add salt and cook
  • Add oil when ever needed and cook rice batter looks like rawa and soft and crispy.
  • Now its ready to serve
